MNA Nurse-Endorsed:
2024 County Commissioner and City council Candidates
Hennepin County Commissioner
Jeff Lunde,
District 1
Lunde believes that patient safety should be the priority when it comes to staffing, and government funding for health facilities should focus on staffing. He is committed to working more closely with nurses at North Memorial and HCMC as both hospitals have an outsized impact on care for many Minnesotans and beyond as they’re both level-one trauma centers.
Debbie Goettel,
District 5
Goettel supports ratios and has told elected officials in her area that she is with MNA on this issue. She said that if management at HHS is not on board, that she would push back on them publicly. Goettel said she supports nurses’ right to strike and was frustrated by false information about retention from management at HHS.
Heather Edelson,
District 6
Edelson sees her role as a county commissioner as different than a legislator and aligns more closely with MNA’s local stances. She committed to meeting with MNA nurses at HCMC quarterly and getting labor seats on the Hennepin Health board of directors.
Kevin Anderson,
District 7
Anderson wants both workers and management to have in-person conversation with him and each other to try and develop those relationships. He believes that laborers need to have a seat on the HHS board.
Dakota County Commissioner
Maplewood City Council
Yusuf Haji,
District 5
Haji has built a career out of community organizing and labor activism. He has strong support in the community, including current state and local elected officials.
Stephen Fitze,
At-Large
With a background both in healthcare and labor, Fitze strongly supports MNA nurse priorities. He believes in increasing funding for the Public Health department and public health education programs, as well as supporting safe staffing and single payer healthcare issues. He is committed to working with nurses and relying on healthcare workers when making decisions around healthcare issues.
